History

In 1914, Chandler qualified to host a secondary school. A separate secondary school district, featuring borders and executives similar to the elementary school district, was formed at that time. The junior high school subject was taught in the fall, with four teachers and nineteen freshmen using the space at the Chandler Grammar School. Other classrooms were used after the academic year 1914-15, including churches and local businesses. The first students graduated in 1918, with third graders graduating.

Permanent building

In 1919, the first of two bond issues was passed to allow for the construction of a permanent home for secondary school. Both bond issues (in 1919 and 1921) provided $ 291,800, and a site on Arizona Avenue and Detroit Street, adjacent to grammar schools, was selected.

Los Angeles Allison & architectural firm Allison designed the initial plan, featuring a two-story Classical Awakening structure (departure from the Resurrection Mission of the former building), a central auditorium, and two U-shaped class wings. Construction in the first stage, the classroom open for the academic year 1921-22, beginning in spring 1921, was originally undertaken by local contractor JW Tucker. After the 1921 ties, Collins Brothers based in Kansas City was the general contractor for the second phase. The entire project was completed on May 1, 1922.

The new building features state-of-the-art facilities such as a physics laboratory, a domestic science room with a kitchen, an auditorium with seating capacity for 1,000 people, and an "ultramodern" feature for its time: electrical clock and bell system. All classrooms are connected by telephone to the central switchboard in the front office. The exterior is made of cement lined with fireproof plaster, with tiled roof and terracotta decoration. The formal devotion of the new building occurred on May 10, 1922.

1930-1950

Enrollment in secondary schools in the 1920s and 1930s followed the trend. In 1928, 32 students graduated; when the Great Depression took place, only 15 did so in 1930. Numbers began to rise again in the late 1930s with about 34 students per class.

In 1939, the first new building in 17 years appeared on campus, a new gymnasium. Built for $ 70,000 ($ 27,000 of funding comes from a WPA grant) and displays a cafeteria behind. The original gym was restored on the outside and renovated into carpentry and farming shops.

In 1947, a building of band space was added to the northwest of the main gymnasium. On the west side of the building is a garage bus district with the entrance and exit of California Street. A used barracks building is also purchased and used for dressing rooms, then bookstores. An economic home building was built in 1950.

In 1953, football and field tracks were moved from behind the original buildings to new sites in Nebraska and Erie Streets, where the baseball field has been moved. He was named Austin Field for W.G. "Bill" Austin, a 30-year-old teacher and administrator, a graduate of Chandler High, and a 10-year-old soccer coach at school. (Still wearing this name today.) One newspaper article in 1960 referred to Austin as "Mr. Chandler High School".

In the 1950s, Chandler's second high school was opened - the Roman Catholic High School Seton at its original campus location, now 300 East Chandler Boulevard. When Seton grew up, many of his athletic events used the Chandler High School facility into the 1980s (and even early 2000s for some soccer games).

1960s-1975

In 1959, a vocational/agricultural building on California Street was added. The following year, the new north wing of the main building housed eleven classrooms and science labs, while the classroom and the old changing room were transformed into guidance and administration offices. At this point, Chandler has 899 students. The 1960 class has 136 students. The faculty consists of 33 teachers, and the school board is expanded to five members out of three. Chandler also hired a new assistant inspector.

As the 1960s continued, the school continued to grow. A music building was built facing Erie Street, and the original band room transformed into a graphic art classroom the following year. Also in 1964, a new Physical Education Building, including a new gymnasium and a new open swimming pool, was opened.

The Cleveland School (Old Chandler Grammar School) closed in 1968, and it became the Southern Annex to Chandler High School. The classrooms are renovated, and part of the building is used for special education. The primary school auditorium is now used for secondary schools, because in 1970, it was originally converted into a media center and more classrooms.

The Cleveland School, except for the special education section, was torn down to make room for the 1973 newest addition, Gail T. Gaddis Building (named for a 25-year-old teacher who retired that year). This includes technical and industrial classrooms. The original Gymnasium, Gedung Kesenian Industri, became an enlarged Art Building.

1975-1995

In 1975, the Chandler Elementary School and High School District were united as the Integrated School District in Chandler. Pre-schools added to the addition of that year to the House Economy House, turning it into a U-shape. A bookstore was built a few years later, later expanded into the home of the audiovisual department.

A general renovation took place in 1987, but the largest addition of classroom to school in the 1980s was when the Chandler First High School was closed in 1988, replaced by Andersen Secondary School at Dobson and Ironwood Roads. The closed school quickly became the Northern Annex to Chandler High School.

The following year, the Chandler Art Center opened in collaboration with Chandler City.

Chandler High School was honored as the Blue Ribbon school twice, in the 1982-83 and 1986-87 school years.

1995-present

1995 and 1996 saw some of the most substantial changes to campus in decades. In 1995, the Art House (original gymnasium), the Music House, and House of Home Economics came to build North and South Academies, new administration/media buildings, new cafeterias and new courtyards. New buildings include 70 classrooms. The following year, the renovation of the original building, now called Old Main, takes place. The updated Old Main contains 48 classrooms. The gym was named "Coy C. Payne Gymnasium" after Chandler's first black mayor.

In 1998, the Chandler population has risen to the point that secondary secondary schooling is required. Hamilton High School opened that year, and two additional secondary schools opened in 2002 (Basha High School) and 2007 (Gilbert's Perry High School).

In 2002, a bond was awarded to Chandler District's integrated voters for $ 60 million. Half is destined to go to Chandler High School which has been renovated and expanded, including destroying 90 homes to add 20 acres to campus. The work was completed for the school year 2005-06. Among the features are the new Gail T. Gaddis building, two-story building, 41,000 square feet (3,800m 2 ); new dressing room; new athletic fields; renovation of the exterior to the gymnasium; and a new pool.

Old Main was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Chandler High Chess Team reached second place in the region in 2014, and was awarded with the best board 1 (Jarod Coulter). This is the first year Chandler competes. The Chess team went on to take 3rd place in the country competition in the same year, where the team received the award for best board 5 (Cortney Reagle).

The Chandler High Level Debate team has been competing nationally for several years, tying for 10th place in the country by 2016 (Tanzil Chowdhury and Nikpreet Singh). Chandler also previously ranked the student team tied to 32 overall in the world (2014), as part of the International Public Policy Forum competition (Manav Sevak, GurPaul Sidhu, Wesley Kendall).
