Plot

The show explores life, both professional and personal, from firefighters and paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department in the Machinery Company 51 quarters; Trucking Company 81; Rescue Squad Company 3; Battalion 25 and Ambulance 61. Following the deaths of fire veteran Andrew Darden, loyalty cracked and divided as Lieutenant (then captain) Matthew Casey, officer who handled Truck Company 81, and Lieutenant Kelly Severide, the officer in charge of the 3rd Squad, blamed each other to each other over the deaths of their old friends and colleagues. Severide was consumed with more guilt when he learned that Darden's wife also blamed him for the tragedy. Despite their differences, the fire department came together after the near death of Truck Company 81 Firefighter Christopher Hermann. Hermann survived after being stabbed in Season 4.

The pilot series, co-written by creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, was filmed in Chicago and, according to NBC representatives, the series will continue to be filmed there. Producer John L. Roman was involved from the beginning after working with Chicago Fire Department and District Deputy Chief Steve "Chik" Chikerotis at BackDaft. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel made an appearance in the series' pilot episodes. Emanuel states: "It's easier to be the mayor than to play the mayor, I tell them I'll do it on one condition: the TV show invests in the Fire Dowager and Orphan Fund."

The title "Chicago Fire" has sparked some confusion in the first season of the show in connection with it being shared with the local big professional football team; Chicago Fire Soccer Club. Actor Taylor Kinney said, "If you (say) 'We're working on" Chicago Fire, "' they're asking if you're a soccer player." But show producer Dick Wolf does not mind and has seen that team fans may be watching. The Chicago Fire team itself has received a name along with the show and has shown its inaugural series on October 2, 2012 at Toyota Park after a match with the Philadelphia Union.

The network placed orders for the series in May 2012. Upon receipt of an additional script order in October, Chicago Fire was taken for the full season on 8 November 2012. On January 29, 2013, Chicago Fire experienced a total episode increase from 22 to 23. One week later, on February 6, 2013, Chicago Fire received one more episode, delivering a total of 24 episodes for season one. The pilot episode had an early release on NBC.com, prior to the premiere of the series on television.

On November 9, 2015, NBC renewed the series for the fifth season. The season premiere on October 11, 2016.

Filming

The building used in performances for exterior fire extinguishers is the Chicago Fire Brigade Fire Department, and is the headquarters of Engine 18, located at 1360 South Blue Island Avenue on Maxwell Street, between 13 & amp; Racine. Located here are ALS Engine 18, 2-2-1 (Vice Regent - District 1), 2-1-21 (District Chief 1), 6-4-16 (High-Rise Response Unit), and ALS Ambulance 65. Interior Firehouse 51 was filmed at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. The station house used for the exterior at Chicago PD is just a few blocks away at 949 West Maxwell Street on Morgan Street (the interior is also filmed on Cinespace).

Chicago artist and retired retired paintings fire fire scene Lee J. Kowalski can be found in several episodes.

Molly's, a small bar belonging to Herrmann, Otis and Dawson, was filmed in Lotties in Bucktown. Filming is no longer in place to avoid business interruptions. Instead, the interior and exterior environments are recreated in Cinespace.

In November 2012, WGN-TV reported a plane crash on the 29th and Martin Luther King Drive on their morning newscast and showed live footage for a few minutes before realizing it was just a scene that had been staged earlier for Chicago Fire and not an actual emergency situation.
