Flowering tea or tea bloom (Mandarin: ??, ???, or ??? ) consists of a leaf bundle dried tea wrapped around one or more dried flowers. This is made by tying the tea leaves and flowers together into a bulb, then arranging it to dry. When soaked, the bundle expands and stretches in a process that emulates the blooming flower, and the flower inside it appears as its center. Usually they are sourced from Yunnan province of China. Flowers commonly used in flowering tea include the world of spinach, chrysanthemum, jasmine, lily, hibiscus, and osmanthus.
Flowering tea can be a modern creation or a much older Chinese invention.
Flower tea is generally served in containers made of glass or similar transparent materials so that flowering effects can be seen. Bundles can usually be reused two or three times without tea being bitter.
