Handyman Superstar Challenge (also referred to as Superstar Handyman Challenge from the first season's logo of the event) is a television game featured at HGTV Canada, organized by Karen Bertelsen. The show seeks to find the best carpenter in Canada, with the winner originally given the opportunity to host an event at HGTV in the first season, although no prizes are mentioned explicitly in subsequent years. However, the winner of Handyman Superstar Challenge has traditionally been given guest appearances in the television series Mike Holmes (Holmes on Homes) or Holmes Inspiration Holmes in [ New Orleans does not feature contestants Handyman Superstar Challenge ).
Handyman Superstar Challenge was filmed at the Evergreen Brick Works facility in Toronto, Ontario, with episodes lasting several days in a row.
A US spin-off of this series was made in 2010, to be broadcast on HGTV (USA), called All American Handyman. "Handyman Superstar Challenge" was replaced by the successor series at Canadian HGTV called Canadian Handyman Challenge.

Format
10 contestants are eligible for the competition through submission to the HGTV website. Since the third season, 20 contestants arrived in Toronto for a qualifying challenge for 10 open competition venues.
At the beginning of each day, the contestants are taken from their hotel room at dawn and taken to the spot of challenge. In the first season, there is only one challenge (because the episode becomes 30 minutes, not 60 minutes from the next season, to match with the show of his brother). In the second season, there are two challenges per day: the "handyman" challenge that showcases the skills of the contestant in the morning, and the "superstar" challenge featuring the contestant's presentation skills in the afternoon. Mike Holmes, Jim Caruk, and HGTV casting agent Shasta Lutz are judges for the first two seasons.
Since the third season, starting with the second day of the competition (the first day for qualifying challenges and the "Lion Den challenge" where judges Mike Holmes and Jim Caruk evaluate the basic skills of the contestants), there is a compulsory challenge in the morning, where there is a guest lead judge ( Mike and Jim were absent on the morning challenge). Guest judges can offer suggestions to contestants about their projects. When the challenge ends, Mike and Jim arrive to provide an initial evaluation with the guest judge (this is a blind evaluation; Mike and Jim do not know which contestants are associated with the project, though after a few days they always guess correctly). After the contestants go back and defend their work in front of the judges, and a second evaluation determines which of the remaining contestants will not take part in the "redemption challenge" at night (and safe from being knocked out). Typically, three contestants participate in the challenge of redemption, except for one pair of challenges each year, in which two teams (four contestants) participate in the challenge of redemption (which is an individual matter). The challenge of redemption is often associated with major challenges, and both Mike and Jim (but not guest judges) lead the challenge.
The worst performers, as perceived by the jury, are eliminated from the competition (two in the episode with the couple's challenge).
Elimination continues until three fixed contestants, from which one of the three will be named Handyman Superstar after the final head-to-head challenge.

Synopsis
Season 1
Ten finalists, such as those chosen by the judges, for the first season are as follows:
Season 2
Although the format remains the same for Season 2, minor changes have been made to adjust the fourth season format of Designers Superstar Challenge, including having challenges taking place on consecutive days, requiring contestants to live together in luxury apartments, and early "three room" challenges. The second season also further separates the skill-based "Handyman" challenge (which in itself does not emphasize the need for more suitable skills for professional contractors, such as home renovation estimates) and presentation-based "Superstar" challenges. The look and feel is also changed to match the fourth season Designer , which is also consistent with the third season of Chef and the first season Hair
Ten finalists for the second season are as follows:
Season 3
In the third season, 20 contestants are invited, not ten, although in the first challenge, where the contestant has 90 minutes to make the work of two pieces of plywood, the field is reduced to ten. Only ten people who progress from this challenge are considered finalists. Shasta Lutz is not back in this season, leaving only Mike Holmes and Jim Caruk as judges. However, in every episode (except the first and last) there will be a guest judge joining them. Instead of presentation-oriented challenges, the ultimate players of the ultimate challenge will compete in the challenge of eliminating "play-in" later that day.
- BYE - Contestants advance without competing in the night challenge.
- IN - Contestants compete in nighttime challenges, and successfully advance
- OUT - Contestants have been deleted
Season 4
Season 4 continues the same format as the third season. In one change, each contestant has space in "Handyman Superstar Locker" for their tool; contestants take down their tools as they are eliminated. In the center of the locker is the Handyman Superstar Belt with Mike and Jim's signature, which is awarded to the winner at the end of the competition.
