Stamping rubber , also called stamping , is a craft where several types of inks made of dye or pigment are applied to drawings or patterns that have been carved, printed, laser engraved or vulcanized, to a rubber sheet. Rubber is often fitted to more stable objects such as wood, brick or acrylic blocks. Images of volcanic rubber with adhesive foam support attached to a vinyl cling sheet that allows for use with an acrylic handle as a support. These cling rubber stamps can be stored in smaller quantities and are usually priced cheaper than the installed timber. They can also be positioned with a large amount of accuracy due to the ability of the stamper to see through the handle used. Temporary stamps with simple designs can be carved from potatoes. Ink-covered rubber stamps are pressed into all types of media in such a way that the colored images are transferred to the medium. The general medium is some kind of cloth or paper. Other media used are wood, metal, glass, plastic, and stone. High volume batik uses liquid wax instead of ink on metal stamp.
Commercially available rubber stamps are divided into three categories: stamps for office use, stamps used to decorate objects or used as children's toys.

Business rubber stamp
There are three different types of rubber stamps: traditional, where the pad is in a separate container of stamps; Self-inking stamps, which have a self-die that rests on a pad until it turns 180 degrees upside down to make a trace; and ink-stamped stamps, where the dice itself is actually impregnated with ink.
Rubber stamps for businesses usually show company addresses and logos. They often have movable sections that allow users to customize date or stamp words. They are used for incoming mail dates, as well as to indicate special handling for documents. In some countries it is common practice for formal documents such as contracts to be labeled as additional marks of authenticity.
Business stamps are generally available from stationeries or directly from the manufacturer. Popular stamps include postage stamps and postage stamp checks. Among the few areas where business stamps see sales growth are in the merging of commercial stamp markets with the creative/art side. Many people choose to add color and art to the decorative effect on their postage stamps.
Some artists have used such stamps to decorate artwork for special effects or in an ironic way.

Tagging documents can be done from within the user's word processor. This can be done manually by creating a "postage" to appear on the document in the automatic document marking software for Microsoft Word. This allows each page to be stamped when printed with electronically-generated electronic user stamps. It provides users with a standard and consistent document management solution for paper-based workflows.
Ready-made decorative rubber stamp (art stamp)
Art stamps have become fashionable in the United States, more than in Europe. Although largely regarded as children's toys in Europe, in the US they are available in intricate designs and used to decorate objects. Art stamps can be used for decoration of useful items such as paper for letters and greeting cards and similar things, but can also be combined with other techniques to create traditional art.
As an art form
Because rubber stamping is gaining popularity, especially in the United States, it also gained a reputation as an art form. Some participants choose to carve their own rubber stamps, either from old rubber erasers or rubber erasers. Companies like Speedball or MasterCarve provide a set of engravings for amateurs who want to carve their own rubber stamps, with some tools including linocut. Molds from carved rubber stamps are seen as works of art themselves, or one or more stamps used to embellish artwork with other components. Materials other than rubber can be used to produce a stamp. Wooden carvings and linocut, linoleum carvings, are an art form based on the same principle. Linoleum is much harder than rubber and thus requires special tools. Woodcut is widely used by professional artists, requires a lot of talent and patience. Rubber carvings can be purchased, but are marketed as toys and are not widely used. In addition, photopolymer stamps are getting popular. They are most often produced in a set of coordinated images using a clear polymeric material on acetate carrier sheets for storage and packaging. The stamps are peeled off the carrier sheet and applied to a clear acrylic handle. This allows the stamper to view the image via the handle and the exact placement effect of the desired image. Photopolymer stamps are generally manufactured in the United States for sale domestically and internationally. Similar clear stamps made from silicon are manufactured by US companies in China. Silicone stamps have many of the same properties of photopolymer stamps. The production of clear stamps makes the collection of images easier, since they are all used with just one set of sizes. They are also often very economically produced in multiple sets of images that work together to form a cohesive look.
There are several possibilities to change the display of carved stamps. Paints, pigments and dye inks create different effects, extending the use of rubber stamps from paper to fabric, wood, metal, glass, and so on. Ink pads can be purchased that allow for embossing and there are markers that can be used for ink-ink pads with color for multi-color display. The use of rubber stamp can be combined with other materials. Images can be decorated with the addition of chalk, ink, paint, fiber and various ephemera and other ornaments.
Hand-carved rubber stamps are often used in art letters or artist trading cards as they tend to be small and allow series creation. The TAM Rubber Stamp Archive has a collection of rubber stamps prints used by letter artists since 1983 (see link). Stamping is also often used in the manufacture of handmade cards, scrapbooking, and letterboxing.
Stamping Community
Stamping has become a very popular home-based craft, and there are a number of forums, some with thousands of members. Stamper crafts tend to be associated with other paper crafts, such as card making and scrapbooking.
