Avondale is a town in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to Phoenix. According to the 2010 census, the city's population is 76,238.
Avondale, founded in 1946, experienced rapid housing and commercial growth in the years since 1980. Once a rare agricultural community with many acres of alfalfa and cotton fields, Avondale has turned into a major suburb for Phoenix. Several major housing subdivisions and shopping centers were recently built on the former farmland, many adjacent to Interstate 10.

The Crazy Salt River Meridan survey marker is located at Monument Hill . Since 1851, this has become a central point used by the state to measure the land in Arizona. The federal government recognizes this point to measure the boundary between the United States and Mexico after the Mexican-American War ends.
