The terms handbags or baggage cabins (also commonly referred to as items in in North America) refers to the type of luggage that passengers use are allowed to carry along in the passenger compartment of the vehicle instead of moving into the cargo compartment. Passengers are allowed to carry smaller bags with them in the vehicle and contain valuable items and items needed during the trip. Usually there is storage space provided for handbags, either under the seat, or in a locker above the head. Trains usually have luggage racks on chairs and may also (especially in cases of longer traveling trains) have luggage space between backs of seats facing opposite directions, or on additional luggage racks, for example, at the end of a train near the door- door.

Hand baggage allowance is a topic that is often discussed in the context of commercial air travel. On the one hand, passengers may want to have more of their goods in hand during the flight, through long baggage claim processes, and avoid the risk of baggage loss or checked baggage damage. On the other hand, security issues, weight restrictions on takeoff and financial incentives have forced airlines to impose limits on how much and what passengers can take to the cabin.
Cabin baggage allowance
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) establishes guidelines for baggage cabins/handbags/luggage. They are not mandatory, however, and individual airlines can and do their diverse needs. The IATA Guide at a time states:
The cabin baggage should have a maximum length of 56 cm (22 inches), width of 45 cm (18 inches) and a depth of 25 cm (10 inches) including all handles, side pockets, wheels etc.
The actual size and weight limits of cabin baggage can be very different, in some cases depending on the model of the aircraft used, in other cases depending on the ordering class. Due to the lack of standardization a large number of different specifications were created by airlines on maximum permissible cabin restrictions (see below). By 2015 IATA is attempting to introduce smaller common sizes for cabin baggage by introducing the "IATA Cabin OK" logo. Large airlines have expressed interest in receiving such large-sized suitcases on their flights. It's set as 55 x 35 x 20 cm (or 21.5 x 13.5 x 7.5 inches). There was news that the move was supported by nine airlines including Lufthansa, Emirates and Qatar Airlines. The new size restrictions are widely criticized with preliminary programs to be postponed a few days later. As a result none of the airlines mentioned have introduced a new format (by April 2016).
Dimensions are sometimes listed as "linear", meaning their height, width, and length do not exceed a certain total.
Pay attention: 3 The largest US airline (AA, DL, UA) shows on their respective websites that the maximum dimensions for baggage luggage are 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches, including handles & amp; wheel bag. The three airlines are different ONLY in the way they change the dimensions based on inches to centimeters.
Business Class, first-class passengers and high-mileage club members are often allowed to carry a second bag of the same size and weight, or smaller sizes and weights.
On smaller aircraft, sometimes hand baggage can be carried to the aircraft door, where it is collected by luggage officers to store in the cargo area and return to passengers right after landing.
Security restrictions
Following increased restrictions imposed on flights from UK airports and to the US after the events of the August 2006 transatlantic plane plane, the hand luggage on the flight was limited to one cabin bag no larger than 45 cm - 35 cm - 16 cm from August 15. On September 21, 2006, the British Airport Authority suggested that from the following day, the allowed size of a single carry-on baggage on a flight out of the UK would be increased to 56 cm - 45 cm - 25 cm (approximately 22 in ÃÆ'â € "17.75 in ÃÆ'â € "9.85 in), the size of the IATA guidelines. Most airports in the UK still have a tight limit of one cabin baggage per passenger, including business class (allowing two pieces of cabin baggage in Europe, excluding flights to and from the UK).
European Union
General rules for cabin baggage restrictions were introduced on 6 November 2006 in the European Union and in Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
- Fluid restrictions:
- only liquids with max 100Ã, ml per piece
- all the parts are assembled in a single folded plastic bag with max 1000ml (1 liter)
- reusable plastic bags should not exceed 20 cm x 20 cm
- maximum of 1 plastic bag per passenger
- liquids including gels and lotions (shampoo, toothpaste), lip sticks, moist tissue paper, contact lens solutions
- Exception:
- prescribed medications of various sizes, unpreserved drugs
- baby milk and other items for baby
- nutrition for diabetic diet
- Restrictions on malicious objects:
- armaments, including sports imitations and utilities (eg archery)
- sharps, even small ones, including arrows and razor blades
- Recommendations allow light blades and scissors with blades up to 6 cm but some countries do not accept these (eg nail care items)
- blunt objects, clubs, and all the bigger sticks, including sports equipment (eg skateboards)
- Flammable items, including ethanol, alcoholic beverages above 70%, some matchsticks
- toxic chemicals, including pepper spray, liquid batteries, blood samples
United States
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a series of effective restrictions since September 26, 2006 under the name "3: 1: 1" for liquids.
- Fluid restrictions:
- 3.4 ounces or smaller than the container for liquids and gels (100 ml)
- 1 clear 1 liter plastic bag containing liquid contents (approx. 950 ml)
- 1 bag per tourist displayed publicly in the security bin
- TSA guidelines explicitly received measured portions of 100Ã, ml/1 liter as determined later in the European Union
- the list of exceptions for liquids (infant formula, diabetes diet) is identical to EU guidelines.
TSA has additional restrictions for security searches: for example, luggage can not be locked (except with special baggage keys that can be opened by TSA staff), prizes should not be wrapped, and shoes may have to be removed during content search with metal detectors. Food items in the trunk may be misinterpreted as dangerous materials that trigger intensive search.
