Spinning is a 2002 American black comedy comedy drama comedy film directed by Jonas ÃÆ'â € | kerlund of the original scenario by William De Los Santos and Creighton Vero, based on 3 days De Los Life Santos in the drug subculture of Eugene, Oregon and Jason Schwartzman, John Leguizamo, Mena Suvari, Patrick Fugit, Peter Stormare, Alexis Arquette, Deborah Harry, Eric Roberts, Chloe Hunter, Nicholas Gonzalez, Brittany Murphy and Mickey Rourke.
This is the debut... kerlund as a feature film director, already known for his work on music videos. The film was taken in 22 days, and centered on the various people involved in methamphetamine ring rings. This film combines elements of dark comedy and drama in story telling. The title is a reference to the slang term for how users feel after a few days of sleeplessness at a shabu party. The characters take a combined total of 23 "hits" during movie playback.

Plot
Ross (Jason Schwartzman) is a customer of Mike Spider (John Leguizamo), a methamphetamine distributor. Spider Mike and his girlfriend, Cookie (Mena Suvari) continues to argue, and Ross attacks a friendship with Nikki (Brittany Murphy), a fellow addict. Nikki invites Ross to meet his girlfriend, "The Cook" (Mickey Rourke), who supplies Spider Mike with medicines from the lab he founded in the motel room. Cook gives a small amount of meth to Ross in return for bringing Nikki home, and says that he will contact Ross if he needs a driver.
Back to his apartment, Ross gets a message from his mother and his ex-girlfriend, Amy, wishes her a happy birthday. Ross, assuming that Amy still loves her, sporadically calls her and leaves a message on her answering machine. He then went to the local strip club while high, leading to intense pornography hallucinations. She takes April (Chloe Hunter), one of the dancers she has a relationship with, home and has sex with her in various positions, the latter leaving her tied to the naked bed. When they are done, Cook calls in an emergency about Nikki's dog, Taco, who needs to be taken to the vet. April tells him to let go but Ross, still tall, closes his eyes in April and closes his mouth to keep him quiet and leaves him handcuffed to the bed, playing music to cover up the choking screams. Elsewhere, two policemen (Peter Stormare and Alexis Arquette) work with a TV crew invading a trailer where Frisbee (Patrick Fugit), one of Spider Mike's subscribers, lives, with a false belief that the meth lab is there. They took Frisbee and her obese mother into custody and threatened her to help them in the drug case against Spider Mike.
After driving Cook around the city to buy ephedrine, beer, and pornography pills, Ross returned to his apartment to apologize until April. In Cook's motel room, he and Nikki fight after a prostitute arrives in response to Cook who invites him around. Nikki ends their relationship, and calls Ross and asks her to take him to the bus station so he can return to Las Vegas, which Ross does, leaving April still tied to the bed. While Ross and Nikki are out, Frisbee, now wearing a wire, visits Spider Mike to buy some meth so the police can catch him. When he enters, Cookie tries to seduce him, as revenge for Spider Mike uses the sex-phone line, but finds a wire. As the police burst in, Spider Mike ferociously shoots Frisbee inside his balls; Spider Mike and Cookie were both arrested, and Frisbee was taken to the hospital. After Ross and Nikki return to her apartment and find April go (rescued by her lesbian neighbor (Deborah Harry)), Ross finally drops Nikki at the bus station, where they share a kiss, and hopes to reunite if she ever goes to Vegas.
Meanwhile, Cook's meth lab burned and destroyed motel rooms; he fled to an adult movie store, where he was arrested after his owner called the police. After Cook makes a guarantee, he calls Ross to take a ride to another dealership house in town, which Ross agrees to do so that he can see Amy, who also lives in town. Dealers provide Cook with cash, some shabu, and equipment to start a new lab. The Cook promised Ross Meth for six months instead of his driver; he agreed on the condition that he could see Amy first. Amy, who gets her life together, does not want a part of her after seeing that she is still using drugs and can only give $ 100 out of her $ 450. When all the other characters went to bed, the cook drove the depressed Ross into an old trailer in the countryside. Ross naps in his car as Cook prepares a new lab in the trailer, just to blow it up and himself in the process.

Acceptance
The film received mixed reactions, with some analysts commenting that the movie did not add anything new to the movie genre of drugs. Time Out London is very loud, accusing the movie of "arrogant amoralism", and claiming that ÃÆ'... kerlund only reuses the ideas and techniques of others.
Roger Ebert is more sympathetic in his review, in which he describes the film as "a crime without effort." The main judgment is the fact that the film does not at all try to romanticize one character and goes on to say, "how interesting this story is and these guys seem to have lived before the movie started and will continue after that instead of a plot we drop by to their lives ". Ebert, however, explicitly mentions the similarity between this and the previous Requiem for a Dream . This comparison may not be lost on filmmakers. Titles on pornographic tapes purchased by a character reading "Rectum for Dreams", and scenes showing drug consumption also show a narrowing effect on pupils in rapid cutscenes.

Original music for Spun was written by Billy Corgan. The soundtrack of the film features songs by artists such as Iron Maiden and UFO (played by The Djali Zwan), Ozzy Osbourne, MÃÆ'¶tley CrÃÆ'¼e, Blues Traveler, Bathory (for whom ÃÆ'â € | kerlund previously played drums), Richie Havens, Phantom Planet (with whom Jason Schwartzman played drums at the time), Per Gessle (half of Roxette), Paola, and Satyricon, whose video for the song "The Northern Mother" appeared in the movie.
