Criticism and Controversy
Movie Review of Electric Car
Following the broadcast of the last episode of Series 17, a scene from the movie Electric Cars Review was criticized by the charity of disabled riders, where Jeremy Clarkson and James May were shown parked their electric cars into two defective parking spaces. In response to this, executive producer Andy Wilman defended the presenter on his blog online, revealing that both had expressed deep concern that it would create a disrespectful impression, but only used the space when the owner of the car park gave permission, adding that there had been three disabled parking spaces others available, before apologizing to any viewers who have been annoyed by the scene.
In later scenes in the film, Clarkson was shown making people to help him drive the electric Nissan Leaf on the streets after it ran out of charge. This sparked controversy when Nissan discovered from onboard data recording in the car that its cargo had been lowered to only 40% capacity before the "test drive", which promptly attracted criticism from companies, electric car enthusiasts, newspapers, and celebrities in response to the view show about electric cars. However, Andy Wilman rejected claims that the show misled viewers about the cost and reach of Leaf, and stood aside the consumer points raised in the movie.
