The Mazda CX-7 is a mid-size crossover SUV model from Mazda, and is a production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The CX-7 was shown openly for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2006 in January. The official production started on February 20, 2006, at Mazda's Ujina # 2 factory in Hiroshima.
The CX-7 went on sale in April 2006, as a model for 2007, and was discontinued in August 2012, supporting the new Mazda CX-5. It was also the first mid-size Mazda SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994. CX-7 and Mazda CX-9 do not share the platform. The CX-7 shares the MPV minivan's front suspension, and the rear suspension of the Mazda5.
It shares an inline 4 turbocharged engine with Mazdaspeed6, and uses a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2012 model is the last year for the CX-7, to pave the way for the launch of the CX-5. CX-5 has a more efficient powertrain and more interior space, while the exterior is smaller than the CX-7.

Specifications
Engine and transmission
Power comes from the same 2.3 L straight-4 engine MZR used in Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 coupled with Aisin's six-speed automatic transmission, and is tuned to produce 244 hp or 182 kW (Australian model 175 kW) at 5000 rpm and 258 lbÃ, à · ft (350Ã, NÃ,m) of torque at 2500 rpm low, 99% of maximum torque available up to 5000 rpm.
The 2.3L DISI turbo MZR turbo engine found in Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 has been reunited in the North American CX-7 specification to produce torque at lower rpm because the turbo is less lagged from the line, at the expense of power. This is achieved thanks to the redesigned and smaller K04 turbocharger. The UK specification CX-7 has a K04 turbocharger and transmissions similar to those found on the Mazdaspeed line.
Model range, pricing, and features
The CX-7 has a fully independent suspension, four-wheeled ventilated disc brakes with standard anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control, and a choice of front-wheel drive, or Active Torque-Split rear-wheel drive system from Mazda. With the Active Torque Split system, two computer-controlled magnetic clutches feed up to 50% of the engine torque to the rear wheels.
The Australian combined cycle of official fuel economy is 11.5 L/100 km (25 mpg -imp ; 20.5 mpg -US ), similar to Holden Captiva. But the real-world fuel economy is closer to 18.0 L/100 km (15.7 mpg -imp ; 13.1 mpg -US ), as much or more than Ford region.
In the 2010 model, there are four trim levels (models), iSV , iSport , sTouring , and sGrand Touring > & amp; mdash in equipment level up. Touring and Grand Touring models are available with all wheel drive and are offered with a 2.3L turbocharged engine. SV and Sport trims are equipped with DOHC DOHC 2.5L MZR which is naturally aspirated four cylinders.

While officially classed as a 'Mid size crossover SUV', the Mazda CX-7 is considered a 'Soft Roader' by an automotive source. The CX-7 features an active torque active four-wheel drive system, which sends up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels on a slippery surface, to ensure consistency of the handle.
Engine
The engine options include a 2.5-liter MZR four-cylinder engine, which produces 161 hp (120 kW) and 161 lb ft (218Ã, N? M) torque and the same MZR 2.3L DISI Turbo engine than before. Transmission is a five-speed automatic for 2.5, and a six-speed automatic for the Turbo 2.3 DISI engine.
Origin name
CX-7 reminds one of the RX-7 names, (which is a stopped sports car, and replaced by RX-8), but the first letter, 'R' ('R' means rotary engine), is changed to 'C' 'C' means crossover SUV).
Possible resurrection
Although not yet officially confirmed, the CX-7 nameplate can be used on seven new seats based on the expanded Mazda CX-5, due to the growing popularity of three lines of crossover. The result, the three-line Mazda CX-8 crossover, which is essentially a long wheelbase version of the second generation compact crossover Mazda CX-5, was released exclusively in Japan on September 14, 2017.
