The Tool is any physical item that can be used to reach a goal, especially if an item is not consumed in the process. Tools used in certain fields or activities may have different designations such as "instrument", "utensil", "implement", "machine", "device", or "device". The set of tools needed to reach the goal is "equipment". Knowledge of building, acquiring and using tools is technology.

Some animals are known to use simple tools. The use of stone tools by humans has been around for millions of years. More sophisticated tools, such as bows and arrows, were developed about 10,000 years ago.

The use of tools contributes to human culture and is the key to the rise of civilization.

Histori

Anthropologists believe that the use of tools is an important step in the evolution of mankind. Because tools are widely used by wild humans and chimpanzees, it is widely assumed that the use of the first routine tools took place before the differences between the two species. These early tools, however, may be made of perishable materials such as rods, or composed of unmodified stones that can not be distinguished from other stones as tools.

Stone artefacts only came from around 2.5 million years ago. However, a 2010 study showed hominin species Australopithecus afarensis eating meat by carving animal carcasses with stone tools. These findings propelled back the earliest use of stone tools among hominins up to about 3.4 million years ago.

The findings of actual tools date back at least 2.6 million years in Ethiopia. One of the earliest forms of stone tools is the hand ax.

Until now, the weapons discovered in the excavation were the only "ancient human" tool studied and given importance. Today, more tools are recognized as culturally and historically relevant. As well as hunting, other necessary activities tools such as preparing food, "... nutting, leatherworking, wheat harvesting and woodworking..." Included in this group are "flake rock tools".

Equipment is the most important item used by early humans to rise to the top of the food chain; by creating tools, they are able to complete tasks that the human body can not do, such as using spears or bows and arrows to kill prey, because their teeth are not sharp enough to penetrate many animal skins. The "hunter man" as a catalyst for Hominin change has been questioned. Based on the signs on the bone at the archaeological site, it is now more clear that pre-humans scavenged from the carcass of other predators rather than killing their own food.

The mechanical device underwent a major expansion in its use in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome with the systematic work of new energy sources, notably the waterwheel. Their use is expanded through the Dark Ages with the addition of windmills.

Machine tools caused a spike in producing new tools in the industrial revolution. The proponents of nanotechnology expect the same surge in equipment to be microscopic in size.

Function

A person can classify tools according to their basic functions:

  • Cutting tools and edges, such as knives, sickles or scythe, are wedge-shaped tools that produce shear strength along a narrow face. Ideally, the tool edge should be harder than the cut material or the blade will be blunted with repeated use. But even a formidable tool will require periodic sharpening, which is the process of removing the deformation wear from the edges. Other examples of cutting tools include gouges and drill bits.
  • Moving tools move large and small items. Many levers give users a mechanical advantage. Examples of force enforcement tools include a hammer that moves a nail or a maul that moves the stake. It operates by applying a physical compression to the surface. In the case of a screwdriver, the force of rotation is called torque. Instead, a grounding concentrating force on objects hammered with prevents it moves away when hit. Stationery sends liquid to the surface through compression to activate ink cartridges. Hold and rotate nut and bolt with pliers, gloves, wrench, etc. Also move things with some kind of power.
  • Tools that impose chemical changes, including temperature and ignition, such as matches and welding torches.
  • Guide, measuring and perception tools including rulers, eyeglasses, square sets, sensors, regulators, theodolites, microscopes, monitors, clocks, telephones, printers
  • Forms tools, such as prints, jigs, trowels.
  • Fasteners, such as welders, rivet pistols, nails, or glue.
  • Data and information manipulation tools, such as computers, IDEs, spreadsheets

Some tools may be a combination of other tools. An alarm clock is a combination of measuring instruments (hours) and perceptual devices (alarms). This allows the alarm clock to be a tool that falls outside all the above mentioned categories.

There is some debate about whether to consider protective equipment items as a tool, as they do not directly help do the work, just protecting workers like regular clothes. They meet the common definition of the tool and in many cases are required to complete the job. Personal protective equipment includes items such as gloves, safety goggles, ear protection and biohazard clothing.

Simple engine

A simple machine is a mechanical device that changes the direction or magnitude of a force. In general, they can be defined as the simplest mechanism that uses mechanical advantage (also called leverage) to multiply strength. Usually this term refers to six classic simple machines defined by Renaissance scientists:

  • Lever
  • Wheels and axle
  • Pulley
  • Italics
  • Wedge
  • Screws

Device replacement

Often, by design or by chance, tools can share key functional attributes with one or more other tools. In this case, some tools may replace other tools, either as temporary solutions or as a matter of practical efficiency. "A tool for doing it all" is an important motto for workers who can not practically bring each specific tool to the location of every work task; like a carpenter who does not need to work in the shop all day and need to do work at home customers. Substitution tools can be broadly divided into two classes: "by-design" substitution, or "multi-purpose", and substitution as a substitute. The "by-design" switch is a tool designed specifically to accomplish multiple tasks using only one tool.

Substitution as a substitute is when human ingenuity comes into play and a tool is used for an unintentional purpose like a mechanic who uses long screw drive to separate the car's control arm from the ball joint rather than using a tuning fork. In many cases, the function of the designed secondary tool is not widely known. For example from the former, many wooden saw blades integrate square carpenters by combining special-shaped handles that allow angles of 90 Â ° and 45 Â ° to be marked by aligning the precise portion of the handle with edges and cutting at the rear edge of the saw. The latter is illustrated by the saying "All tools can be used as a hammer." Almost all tools can be used to function as a hammer, although very few tools are deliberately designed for it and even fewer are functioning as well as the original.

Tools are also often used to replace many mechanical equipment, especially on older mechanical devices. In many cases, inexpensive tools can be used to occupy the missing mechanical parts. A roller window in a car can be easily replaced with a pair of grip-vise or regular pliers. Transmission or ignition switch will be replaced with screw-driver. Again, this will be considered a tool used for undesirable purposes, substitution as a substitute. Tools such as a playback would be considered a "by-design" substitution, or "multi-purpose". This class of tools allows the use of a tool that has at least two different capabilities. "Multi-purpose" tools are basically a few tools in one device/tool. Tools like these are often electric tools that come with many different attachments like a rotary tool, so you can say that an electric drill is a "multi-use" tool because you can do more than one thing with an electric drill.

Multipurpose tools

Multi-tool is a hand tool that combines multiple tools into one portable device; Swiss army knife is one of the earliest examples. Other tools have a primary purpose but also incorporate other functions - for example, lineman pliers combine gripper and cutter, and are often used as a hammer; and some whipsaws inserted a wooden carpenter box with the right angle between the blunt end of the knife and the saw handle. It will also be a category where tools are "multi-use" because they are also multiple tools in one (multi-use and multi-purpose can be used interchangeably). This type of tool is specifically created to attract the attention of many different craftsmen who travel to do their work. For these workers, this type of tool is revolutionary because they are a tool or a device that can do different things. With the new revolution of this tool, mobile craftsmen do not have to carry so much equipment into the workplace, because their space will be limited to the vehicles they drive. The problem of having to deal with so many different tools is solved by overtaking the multi-use tool.

Used by other animals

Observations have confirmed that a number of species can use tools including monkeys, monkeys, elephants, some birds, and sea otters. The philosophers originally thought that only humans had the ability to make tools, until zoologists observed birds and apes making tools. Now a unique human relationship with tools is considered that we are the only species that uses tools to create other tools.

Tools metaphor

Telephone is a communication tool that connects between two people involved in a conversation on one level. It's also the interface between each user and the communication network at another level. In the domain of media and communications technology, the counter-intuitive aspect of our relationship with our tools begins to gain popular recognition. The famous Marshall McLuhan said "We formed our tools, and then our tools formed us." McLuhan refers to the fact that our social practices are evolving along with the use of new tools and improvements we make to existing tools.
