Depressing (or looking obsolete ) in decorative art is the activity of making furniture or things that look older and older, giving it a "weathered look", and there are many methods to produce performance age and wear and tear. Pathetic is seen as a refinement technique even though it is the opposite of finishing in the traditional sense. In distress, the end result of this object is deliberately destroyed or manipulated to look less perfect, such as with sandpaper or paint stripper. For example, a handyman often removes some but not all of the paint, leaving evidence of several layers of spotted paint on the wooden grain underneath. This becomes part of "done".
Feeling sad has become a popular design style and decorative art form. These artisans try to look simple, attractive, one-of-a-kind or vintage. The last appearance is often called patina.
Pathetic can be applied to various surfaces and materials such as wood, glass, metal, plastic, stone, concrete, plaster, and paint. Antiquing is a more difficult form in which artisans not only want to be the same age, but also create an antique look.
In addition to troublesome finishes, craftsmen can reapply the paint colors of history, antique faux finish and crackle lacquer. They may also apply details of period accents, such as antique buttons in the dresser drawer.
Some methods involve glazes where colors blend with the cracks to give an antique look. The antiquing process takes time and usually takes a lot of steps to get a look that is old and outdated.
In the mass-produced furniture market, it is common to 'bother' to include artificial wormholes. It can be easily distinguished from real woodworm worm (as it might have in the original antique) because the artificial wood wormhole will typically have an identical and vertical diameter into the wood. The original woodworm hole, on the other hand, will vary in diameter and is usually not perfectly vertical.

The craftsman may deliberately sand, hollow, and scrape the final result of furniture or objects. Wood can be hammered softer, or dimpled, white, acidified, stained or repainted with paint and lacquer crackling. Antiquing paint and varnish available in craft stores or can be mixed at home. The new paint layer can be diluted before use to allow wood and other layers to be displayed or look more like white wash . The lacquer paint layer can be watered to create an uneven pattern. Once a new paint or coat is applied, the angle and features can be painted a little brighter or sanded as desired to look obsolete. Steel wool can be treated with vinegar to make acidic oxide, then brushed on stripped surfaces and sanded to create an antique stain effect.
