The Fujifilm FinePix X100 was originally shown at the photokina event in September 2010 and later introduced in February 2011. This is the first model in the Fujifilm X-series camera and has since joined many models. It was replaced by Fujifilm X100S.

  • Hybrid optical/electric viewfinder
  • 23Ã, mm (equivalent viewing angle 35Ã, mm (AOV) in 35 mm full frame format) fixed prime lens

Innovation

The FinePix X100 is the first camera to show a number of new technologies developed by Fujifilm. This includes a hybrid viewfinder that allows the user to choose between a conventional optical viewfinder with an electronic overlay, or an electronic viewfinder. The combination of APS-C CMOS sensor-sized, EXR processor and 23mm fast aperture lens (35 mm equivalent) is also the first.

Reception

X100 received generally favorable reviews and numerous awards. This includes Innovative Cameras of the Year from Ephotozine and Best Premium Cameras in the 2011 TIPA awards. In many cases, gifts are awarded for a combination of technology and image quality, but the X100 has also received praise for its design beyond the photography market, coming on top of the Stuff Magazine List for 2011 and in October 2012 received the Good Design Award from the Good Design Award (Japan). Digital Photography Review gave it a 75% score and a silver award, noting that it "combines excellent image quality, builds solid and excellent viewfinder with slightly sluggish and unique operations", added that " It has been improved by some firmware updates since its initial incarnation, and despite its drawbacks, it is now a highly-liked camera." .

Problems

Some X100 cameras are reported to be suffering from 'sticky aperture disease' in which the aperture bar is locked, causing overexposure. Fujifilm has acknowledged this problem and will fix it under warranty.

In the initial release, X100 was widely reported to have various problems. Many, but not all, of these problems are fixed through a series of firmware updates provided by Fujifilm.
